A guy who bought a painting of mine similar to this one invited me to his house to see it.
He lived in a brutalist home. When he answered the door, he was unironically wearing a kimono. He told me he was in his “minotaur phase," he then offered me celery and asked if I “identified with boundaries.” I said yes. He looked disappointed.
The temperature was exactly 58°F. He said it was to preserve thought density. I asked why there are no mirrors in the house he said because they reflect a version of himself he does not understand.
The living area had no chairs. Just concrete platforms with stacks of user manuals from obsolete Soviet electronics. There were no doors in the house. Only what he called thresholds.
A single spotlight illuminated a bowl of ash labeled my father’s silence.
At the end of an absurdly long hallway, 87 feet by my count, there was one painting. Mine. It faced you the entire walk. He said it anchors the tone of the house.
Next to the painting was a glass elevator. He said it leads to the vibration room. I asked how deep it went. He said, "That depends on your resistance."
Before I left, he made me watch a 47 minute video of fog moving across a salt flat. When it ended, he turned to me and said,
"This is what I meant by tone." I left.
